The original building of Kumeya was built, in the Edo Era (1603-1868) as wakihonjin, the second highest ranking accommodation in the Komoro Post Town on Hokkoku Kaido Road. Keeping its history and elegance, it has been renovated and newly opened as Kumeya. Kumeya is a special inn where you can feel the rich taste of the history and culture of Komoro – in highlands, blessed with rich nature-- in Nagano Prefecture.
In the Edo Era, Kumeya accommodated various daimyo and their retinue as a wakihonjin. Remaining wooden guest name plates show that the Kaga Han, or Kaga Domain -- by far the largest domain among other feudal ones – were one of the processions that regularly came through the town.
Make your trip exquisite by staying at Kumeya. Relax, feel the taste of an inn from the Edo era, and enjoy this space of nostalgia full of Japanese history, tradition, and culture. Kumeya is 5-minutes-walk from Komoro Station and within five minutes on foot, you can visit the old Komoro Post Town area and Komoro Castle, also known as Kaikoen Park. To Karuizawa, it takes only 20 minutes by train. Kumeya can be your base for your trip around Nagano.
Going through the entrance with a classic red round pillar box to the side, you will enter a café with an earthen floor. Before your eyes, you will notice a colonnade truss which supports the large roof of the building.
